PAX (Money Mosaic for Peace)

This mosaic artwork reimagines coins as symbols of shared value and collective memory. Through meticulous arrangement, the artist invites the viewer to reflect on the social meaning of money — not as a transactional tool, but as a material that connects lives, histories, and invisible economies.

Each coin is individually positioned to create a shimmering, tactile surface. The work celebrates the beauty of everyday materials and the idea that value can be reshaped through creativity.

In May 2025, Home of TMF was commissioned by L’Hospice Général (through Gustavo Hymon and Alice Saint Clair) to create an in-situ artwork at Les Tattes Collective Housing Centre (Centre d’Hébergement des Tattes) — the largest of its kind in Europe. The result was PAX, a mosaic made of coins from around the world, depicting the universal symbol of peace.

We hope this artwork can also remain at peace itself, as it truly deserves. After some damage, it was restored, with the wish that it may continue to reflect what it represents: a gathering of small fragments from across the planet — coins of little monetary value, yet carrying the imprint of every place and every time. Together they form a vision of the Earth without borders or wealth, simply traces of exchange and human connection, passed from hand to hand — ideally without war or dishonesty. This symbol crystallizes that hope. The mosaic technique, rooted in ancient traditions, also echoes today’s digital pixels — linking the past to the present.
